Travelling inside Champaign-Urbana, the Mass Transit District for Champaign Urbana offers an annual pass for $60 effective July 2009. The regular fare is $1 per ride or one token per ride. Transfers are free. Six tokens can be purchased for $5.00 from any bus operator prior to 7:00 pm. All University of Illinois students, faculty and staff have unlimited access to all routes and services at all times simply by presenting a valid i-card to the operator.
Bike paths are available throughout campus and this is a very popular transportation alternative. There are numerous bike shops in the area that provide excellent service and parts.
Travelling outside the Champaign-Urbana area, Megabus offers service to and from 16 cities in the mid-west: Champaign, IL; Columbia, MO; Madison, WI; Memphis, TN; Chicago, IL; Ann Arbor, MI; Bloomington/Normal, IL; Cincinnati, OH; Cleveland, OH; Columbus, OH; Detroit, MI; Indianapolis, IN; Kansas City, MO; Milwaukee, WI; Minneapolis, MN; St. Louis, MO and Toledo, OH. Tickets are only available online along with fares and schedules. Another bus service for UIUC is the Suburban Express which provides direct weekend bus service to Chicago suburbs.
AMTRAK has a station in downtown Champaign and offers a very reasonable transportation alternative. Travellers can connect with Chicago and travel throughout the country.
Travelling by plane? Champaign Urbana's central location provides easy access to several airports. Willard Airport is located just south of Champaign Urbana and provides non-stop service to Chicago, St. Louis and Detroit. In addition to Willard Airport, there is relatively close access to: Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington-Normal, Indianapolis International Airport, Chicago O'Hare International Airport, Chicago's Midway Airport, and Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.
